Volvo Trucks and Michelin recently announced they will sponsor the fourth annual $25,000 Volvo Trucks Safety Award, which will celebrate truck driving safety measures used by North American fleets.
The Volvo Trucks Safety Award can be won by U.S. and Canadian fleets operating at least five Class 8 units that are using at least one Volvo vehicle, and different awards will be given to fleets that travel more and less than 20 million miles annually. Winners will be chosen based on their accident frequency and prevention measures.
"Safety is paramount for both Michelin and Volvo Trucks, so we’re pleased to recognize the hard work and dedication to safety exhibited by the industry’s top performers," said Ron Huibers, president of sales and marketing for Volvo Trucks North America.
These awards demonstrate Volvo's dedication to safety, which is also exemplified by the Volvo Trucks Driver Challenge 2012, which recently began and will take place over a five-month period.
The challenge will measure and assess a driver's techniques while trying to achieve the maximum fuel economy and longevity for their vehicle.
