A trucking company is Georgia recently announced it plans to train its 1,000 drivers on environmental sustainability and carbon emission practices.
"Every year trucking companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars purchasing fuel efficient equipment and technology yet invest virtually nothing in employee sustainability training," said Brian Kinsey, CEO of Brown Trucking. "While many trucking companies do encourage and preach fuel-conserving activities to their drivers, the accompanying motivation is usually the high price of fuel."
GreenWay Miles is aiding the company in its effort to create better measures for fuel efficiency, which can allow trucking companies to implement fleet management strategies to save on fuel costs.
Joe White, CEO of GreenWay Miles, said his company teaches truckers practices that allow them to conserve fuel, such as the best routes to take and how avoid idling.
According to the website Greenbang, trucks need to improve their fuel efficiency in order to aid the nationwide effort to bring down fuel consumption. Better truck technology that would increase average fuel economy from 6.5 to 9.75 miles per gallon could save trucking companies thousands of dollars per year.
