There has been much discussion recently over the use of cellphones by truckers and how it may affect truck driving safety for all motorists on the road. California is one of the states concerned about the impeding laws, as it will change the way many of their commercial drivers handle their jobs.
The proposed bill, presented by the National Transportation Safety Board, does not allow any commercial truck or bus operator to use a cellphone while in motion. This also applies to hand-held devices when it comes to both calling and texting.
Officials in California say that their trucks can be so massive that an accident can put several lives in danger or block traffic for hours. The supporters of the bill who hail from this state applaud the increase in trucking safety efforts and hope that the ban on cellphones will keep the highways better protected.
New truckers who have recently completed their CDL training should be wary of these regulation when starting their careers, as violations may cause unnecessary stress or dangerous situations.
