Trucking company begins pre-employment drug screening

Trucking company begins pre-employment drug screening

Created: Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 03:01 pm

In an effort to promote trucker health as well as provide overall safety for the company, some businesses are drug testing their drivers. Many freight-hauling businesses are conducting drug testing in order to screen potential employees, which could make the roads safer to travel.

C.R. England, a global transportation provider based out of Salt Lake City, Utah, recently announced that it will begin a pre-employment drug screening program that will test both an applicant's urine and hair for any illicit substances.

"The industry-wide impact of being able to conduct a pre-employment drug test that reviews a longer screening history is a tremendous improvement over the current federally mandated requirements," said Dustin England, vice president of safety and compliance for C.R. England.

Safety directors may wish to enroll their operators in online truck driver safety training courses to educate them on the dangers drug use pose in both their personal and professional lives.

Compliance reviews are a new part of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's program called Compliance, Safety, Accountable (CSA). Approximately 9,311 such reviews were conducted by the agency in 2010. Meanwhile, 6,117 state inspections occurred during the same time period.
