Receiving more than $200,000 in donations from customers and employees of TA and Petro Stopping Centers, the TravelCenters of America was able to come away from its second annual "Band Together for SCF" campaign with a record amount of funds for the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund.
The funds will be used to help truckers who are enable to work as much as they would like due to medical problems, putting an emphasis on trucker health and highlighting how important it is to step up efforts to ensure the well-being of truckers.
"I'm honored to be associated with the generous customers of TA and Petro," said Tom O'Brien, president and CEO of TravelCenters. "The professional driver community deserves recognition for taking care of their fellow drivers this way."
Another possible funding opportunity aiding truckers is coming from government officials in Los Angeles. The officials are looking at using public resources to help people from low income neighborhoods in the L.A. area, putting them to work on transit projects, reported the Los Angeles Times.
