Obama plans to have truckers use more natural gas

Created: Friday, January 27th, 2012 05:01 pm

President Barack Obama built upon his push for natural gas recently, which he highlighted during Tuesday's State of the Union address, speaking at the UPS Depot in Las Vegas to promote natural gas-fueled trucking.

Part of Obama's plans are to provide tax breaks to help companies buy more clean trucks, as well as create new natural gas fueling stations along the nation's highways.

"We applaud President Obama for bringing this vital proposal to 'make the most of America's energy resources' to the forefront and promoting 'safe, responsible development of the near 100-year supply of natural gas' in our country," said Andrew Littlefair, president and CEO of Clean Energy, a natural gas fuel provider.

By using natural gas, trucking companies can improve their fleet management with trucks that are better for the environment, as well as reduce travel costs for truckers.

In the State of the Union address Obama also spoke about maximizing energy resources found throughout this nation. As part of this effort, Obama plans to move forward with the fracking process for natural gas on public lands.
