Natural gas could save trucking companies when deploying their fleets

Natural gas could save trucking companies when deploying their fleets

Created: Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 01:01 pm

NaviStar recently formed a partnership with Clean Energy Fuels to launch a comprehensive natural gas strategy and improve fleet management by providing trucking companies across the United States with a resource for natural gas.

Natural gas allows trucking companies to see vast energy savings within their fleets due to the price difference between natural gas and other fueling options for their heavy-duty trucks.

"We believe the deployment of new, innovative, heavy-duty natural gas engines by world-class original equipment truck manufacturers like NaviStar is accelerating the transition to natural gas fuel as a game-changer for heavy-duty trucking," said Andrew Littlefair, president and CEO of Clean Energy. "We welcome the opportunity to work with NaviStar to bring the benefits of clean, cost-effective, domestically abundant natural gas fuel to the company's trucking customer base."

According to The City Wire, the trucking industry is considering a switch to natural gas due to rising diesel prices, as well as the increased availability of natural gas across the nation.

The website said Wal-Mart and Tyson are supporting the clean energy solution investigating switching their fleets to natural gas.
